The pass from the last task back to the first task is called the backward pass. In this pass, MacProject II determines the latest dates
(Latest Start and Latest Finish) for each task:

If Calculate Using Planned is on, the last task’s Earliest Finish is assigned to be its Latest Finish; if Calculate Using Actual is on, the task’s Actual Finish is assigned to be its Latest Finish. (This is the project end date.) The duration of the last task is subtracted from its Latest Finish to get its Latest Start.

The date for the last task’s Latest Start is then used as the preceding task’s Latest Finish. The duration is subtracted from that date to yield the Latest Start, and so on back to the first task in the schedule.
(If any task has more than one dependent task, it takes the earliest Latest Start from those tasks as its Latest Finish.)
